Charlotte Kurta is seeking a seat as school trustee.

My name is Charlotte Kurta and I am running for school trustee.  I want to bring a parent’s voice to the School Board and encourage open dialogue with parents, teachers and administration. I believe that student success needs great support not only from schools and teachers, but also from parents. This will contribute to a more successful community.I have 2 children in elementary school and have learned to be a strong voice for their needs. I worked for over 10 years with the BC Government and often resolved issues by using good team work with the public and private industry. I have a Master’s of Science degree and have enjoyed teaching part-time for the College here in Quesnel. My work experience and many years of volunteer experience, have given me skills with team-based collaboration. I believe in being well-informed on the issues at the table and with following due process to allow effective group decision-making.

I have lived in Quesnel for 19 years with my husband Jim, and we are committed to making Quesnel the place to raise our family. I am a strong supporter of the French Immersion program and celebrate the variety of education options that our school district has to offer.  I have personal experience with special needs students and believe we need to do all we can to support the students in our district. I recognize and value our rural schools and I will work hard towards maintaining them. I fully support our schools’ Parent Advisory Councils and Canadian Parents for French.

I want to make sure we continue to offer diverse programming for students, to ensure that our students find what is right for them to learn and succeed.  I believe that by putting students’ needs for education first, there will be greater value and benefit for our community as a whole.

If you are willing to support these ideas, please vote on November 19.
