Williams Lake RCMP said they dealt with three impaired driving incidents on the overnight shift June 29 and 30, with one resulting in serious injuries.
At approximately 5 a.m. on Friday, June 30, Williams Lake RCMP were called to a single vehicle rollover in the 2100 block of Chimney Lake Rd. Front line police offices attended the scene immediately, providing first aid until the arrival of EHS, Central Cariboo Search and Rescue and Chimney Lake/Felker Lake Volunteer Fire Department arrived and took over.
“The driver was transported to hospital with serious injuries. After providing first aid to the driver, and only occupant of the vehicle, police officers on scene began an impaired driving investigation which is ongoing,” said Cpl. Brett Squire.
Two other impaired drivers were safely removed from the road overnight, he said.
Squire said local Mounties, supported by BC RCMP Highway Patrol, will be out in force screening for impaired drivers this stampede weekend.
“The vast majority of our community members understand the dangers and risks of impaired driving, and we will continue to target those who don’t seem to get it. You can expect to see a large police presence this weekend targeting impaired drivers, and helping ensure everyone gets home safely from Stampede weekend.”
