100 Mile Fire Rescue rescued an elderly occupant from a wildland fire Monday morning.
The department responded to reports of a structure fire on Horse Lake Road at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30. On arrival they found a wildland fire approximately one acre in size burning up the siding and into the home on the property, fire chief Dave Bissat said.
“100 Mile Fire crews successfully rescued an elderly patient who was in the home and we did an interior attack and knocked the fire down,” he said. The fire had gotten up into the roof but the chief said they got there in time to save most of the home.
After saving the home the wildland fire got away from them and Bissat called for assistance from neighbouring departments. 108 Mile Volunteer Fire Department and Lone Butte Fire Department responded with eight personnel each and were able to help put the fire out.
Bissat noted that they were also able to rescue a couple of animals in the home and they were in good health.
“I want to thank our neighbouring departments, 108 Mile and Lone Butte for sending out their apparatus and manpower,” Bissat said. “With all of us working together, well-trained people, we managed to stop this fire we all did a good job and we all got home safe, no injuries.”
