Food is such a part of all our lives, on a necessary basis, that it can be a powerful social hub on a hobby, recreational or even commercial level. Some people are only an ingredient or two away from turning a favourite recipe into a business venture. Some of those ingredients can be the right preparation space, the right appliances, or just the right encouragement.

Sprout Kitchen Regional Food Hub is the place where foodies find practical resources for making and selling self-made products. Some local businesses have gotten off the ground, there. Other people have refined their food prep skills and learned new techniques to enjoy the next steps of food prep after gardening or baking.

If you haven’t seen Sprout Kitchen, yet, they are inviting the public in for a tour and a visit. Their open house is May 10 from 2-5:30 p.m.

“Sprout Kitchen is a small-scale food processing and innovation hub that serves the North Cariboo Food Hub Region,” said organization spokesperson Nathan Steele. “The kitchen and commercial equipment is available for personal use and local businesses. It’s where your food business grows.”

Everyone is welcome to follow their curiosity, there, and if you feel the germinating urge, also bring your business ideas. Come tour Sprout Kitchen’s facility, Steele said, and get a feel for the place.

“There will be some draw boxes for prizes, such as a free workshop in our kitchen, or our locally produced grain-ola,” said Steele. “There will be some light snacks and refreshments, a time to mingle and meet the staff, and view the facility, also a great opportunity to explore anyone’s particular food business ideas. We want to expand our reach, and meet the community. Not everyone knows what we do at Sprout Kitchen. We empower local entrepreneurs to start and / or scale their food businesses.”

There has been some confusion and some curiosity about what Sprout Kitchen is, and the open house would let the community discover for themselves, Steele said.

“A walk through our kitchen would allow people to learn about which specific equipment we have and how it can be utilized and accessed for personal or business use.”

Sprout Kitchen is located at 101 Marsh Drive.
