Local firefighters were called to a house fire on Webber Road in Barlow Creek Aug. 22 at around 4:50 p.m. As of 6:40 p.m., crews were still on site to put out the blaze.

Barlow Creek, 10 Mile, and Quesnel Fire Departments all responded to the fire. Around 15 firefighters attended from Barlow Creek and 10 Mile, with six arriving from Quesnel Fire Department after 6:30 p.m.

Quesnel volunteer firefighters are trained to enter burning structures, while Barlow Creek and Ten Mile’s firefighters are not, which is why the additional team was called out with one apparatus.

“It was a mutual aid call from Barlow Creek and 10 Mile Lake,” said Quesnel Fire Department fire inspector/safety officer Ron Richert.

“There was substantial damage inside,” he said, and noted that the residents were home but were outside at the time of the fire, so were uninjured.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
