Despite the quick actions of three fire departments, three homes were destroyed in a fire at Wildwood Campsite & Trailer Park Monday, July 3.
Several 911 calls came in at 12:38 p.m. reporting a fire at unit #35 in the park, which is located just north of Williams Lake along Highway 97 in the community of Wildwood, said Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) fire chief Brad Elliott.
The WVFD was first on scene with one engine, two water tenders and nine members.
The Williams Lake Fire Department (WLFD) responded to assist as part of their mutual aid agreement with one fire engine, one water tender and manpower along with the Miocene Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) with two apparatus and manpower.
“I would like to thank WLFD and Miocene for attending and BCAS and RCMP,” said Elliott Tuesday morning.
Elliott confirmed no residents were injured in the fire, which spread quickly due to the heat and wind. The trailer park is also heavily treed with older homes close together. Due to concern of the fire spreading to the nearby forest, members of the BC Wildfire Service were also on hand.
Emergency Social Services (ESS) were made available to those impacted by the fire, which was considered out by 6:20 p.m.
Elliott returned to the scene at 3:30 a.m. to monitor and ensure there was no chance of the fire rekindling.
The investigation into the cause of the blaze continues Tuesday, July 4.
