Smiling to the end, defeated mayoral candidate Ron Craigmyle thanked his supporters for everything and accepted a consolation beverage at Begbie’s Pub.

In an interview prior to the election results, Craigmyle said he’d be happy even if he wasn’t elected.

“I’ll focus on my business, there’s still lots to be done there,” he said.

After election results placed him third after incumbent Mary Sjostrom in first and Ron Paull a close second, Craigmyle said he was pleased to see new faces on council and wished everyone well in their win.

“Hopefully they’ll work on the campaign promises they ran on,” he said.

“They hold the future of Quesnel.”

He said he would be respectful of those elected, however it’s what they do now that counts.

“It’s on their shoulders,” Craigmyle said.

Regarding his campaign, he said it was pretty smooth and he was fairly happy with it but admitted it’s often difficult to get all the questions asked and answered.

“The Legion debate was a good opportunity for people to ask questions, but there’s so much to be asked,” he said.

After the polls closed at 8 p.m., Craigmyle was relaxed and mingled with his supporters waiting for the results.

Scott Elliott and Trevor Guldbransen were on hand, also anxiously awaiting the results to see where they placed in the councilor race.

Part of Elliott’s strategy to familiarize the public with his campaign involved waving and smiling to motorists on the approach to the Moffat bridge carrying his campaign sign.

His campaign was successful and Elliott was back on the side of the road Monday morning with a huge thank you sign.

He admitted to being a little stunned on Saturday night as the results rolled in and he was second with 1,679 votes to Ed Coleman’s 1,733 votes.

Elliott collected more votes than the three incumbents and newcomer John Brisco.

“Support has been incredible,” Elliott said.

“The people I’ve met, the messages on e-mail and social media were amazing.”

Now elected, Elliott says he’ll bring his vision and new ideas to the table.

“I’ve promised everyone I’ll listen to the issues and make up my mind with my heart and make the best decisions I can.”
