Thursday morning, a B.C. provincial court judge found David Raymond Couture guilty of sexual invitation to touching.
Before sentencing, the judge asked for a pre-sentencing report. Couture will be back in Quesnel provincial court March 14.
The charge of sexual invitation to touching stems from an
incident that occurred at the Quesnel library on
April 24, 2010.
According to testimony, Couture, 49, approached and sexually propositioned a 14-year-old girl in the library.
Couture had engaged the young girl in conversation and then offered to bring her back to his van.
The young girl informed the library staff of the
incident and they called
the RCMP who responded immediately and
apprehended Couture.
The Quesnel RCMP commend the young girl involved in taking action to ensure both personal and public safety by alerting library personnel immediately.
Couture, who
already had an
extensive criminal record, including
multiple convictions for violent offences, was well known to police.
In a recent court case, in Sept. 2010, after two days of testimony, B.C. provincial court judge Dennis Morgan found Couture guilty of assault on Observer editor Autumn MacDonald.
Testimony from witnesses, including two RCMP constables, indicated
Couture had grabbed MacDonald’s camera strap as she tried to
photograph him leaving
provincial court after being formally charged with sexual invitation to touching.
