Harris fears 'coalition of losers'

Conservative candidate Dick Harris says the party is simply echoing the concerns of Canadians when it raises the spectre of a possible coalition government.

Conservative candidate Dick Harris says the party is simply echoing the concerns of Canadians when it raises the spectre of a possible coalition government.

“That’s all this country needs is a coalition of losers, you know … I mean … hello?” Harris said Tuesday.

The Cariboo-Prince George candidate cited a recent poll suggesting that 72 per cent of Canadians are concerned about the possibility of a coalition.

“We want to stop it by getting a majority government,” Harris said. “We’re agreeing with Canadians that (a coalition) is a scary proposition.”

NDP candidate Jon Van Barneveld says the coalition scare is a "red herring" to divert attention away from what triggered the election.

"(The Conservatives) have been called on their lack of accountability, their lack of ethics and found in contempt of parliament," he said. "Coalition is not a choice on the ballot."

Van Barneveld added that in a minority government, MPs from all parties should be willing to work together to get the job done.
