Highway 97 going to be good for winter driving, compact snow, slippery and bare sections

Quesnel will see cold temperatures for next couple of days, flurries possible on Wednesday

Quesnel and area motorists who are travelling north and south on Highway 97 today should have an easy go of it.

There are some slippery sections north and south of the City of Quesnel, but it mostly bare roads until you hit compact snow and slippery sections about 22 kilometres north of Williams Lake.

Those conditions remain the same all the way to Cache Creek, but there are long stretches of bare pavement along those routes.

The same goes for travellers heading east from Cache Creek to Kamloops.

Motorists who are driving south through the Fraser Canyon will have to contend with compact snow and slippery sections and some delays.

There will be rock mesh repair and reinforcement at Jackass Mountain Summit starting today (Feb. 19) through Feb. 23. Expect single-lane alternating traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with delays up to 20 minutes.

There will also be rock maintenance on the same days between Alexandria Bridge to Hell’s Gate Tunnel. Expect single-lane, alternating traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Weather

Dress warmly folks as it’s going to be chilly for the next few days.

There will be clearing this morning (Feb. 19), with the fog patches dissipating. The high will be -7C. The low tonight will get down to -17C.

Tomorrow (Feb. 20) will be mainly sunny with a high of -7C. Tomorrow night will drop to -18 C.

Wednesday will provide a mix of sun and cloud with a 60 per cent chance of flurries with a high of -4C. It will be clear at night with a low of -13.
