Highway 97 is closed north of 70 Mile House

Detour available through 83 Mile Road

UPDATE (9:40 a.m.): A detour is now available through 83 Mile Road to North Green Lake Road and then to North Bonaparte Road to Highway 97 at 70 Mile House.

Assessment is still in progress.

Original story: Highway 97 is closed nine kilometres north of 70 Mile House due to an MVI incident. No alternative route is available at this time and assessment is in progress.

Drive BC also put a reminder that certain routes in the province require winter tires or chains from Oct. 1 to March 31, or April 30 on select highways, mountain passes and rural routes in high snowfall areas.

Motorists who do not have snow tires or chains may be fined or turned away.
