The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department as well as local RCMP attended a house fire on Allard Street in Abbott Heights on Monday July 16 at around 10:30 p.m.

All residents and their pets escaped unharmed, and the firefighters continued to douse the fire and monitor the structure until around 1 a.m.

Fire Chief Sylvain Gauthier says investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.

According to Gauthier, three fire engines, two utility vehicles and 26 members of the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department fought the fire.

Smoke billowing from the roof of the residence alerted neighbours from blocks away, who gathered around to see the spectacle.

Fire fighters tackled the blaze from inside the house first before making their way onto the roof, eventually cutting a hole to get at parts that were still smouldering.
