It’s Election Day in Quesnel: Here’s everything you need to know

The next reign of local leaders are expected to be named Saturday night, as the Quesnel 2022 municipal election gets underway.

The city of Quesnel has four candidates listed for mayor, and 12 candidates for six council seats in this year’s general local election.

Mayoral candidates are incumbent Bob Simpson, longtime city councillor Ron Paull, and newcomers Brian Waters and David Schile.

Candidates vying for seats on Quesnel City Council include: Michael Duperron, Scott Elliott, Tony Goulet, Joe Lowndes, Debra McKelvie, Suzannah Paller-Meier, Laurey-Anne Roodenburg, Martin Runge, Troy Schonke, Michael Stobart, Chad Stump and Mitch Vik.

Polls are open in Quesnel from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Correlieu Secondary School, 850 Anderson Drive

Dragon Lake Elementary School, 2655 Quesnel-Hydraulic Road

For the Cariboo Regional District, there is one election taking place in the Quesnel area, with incumbent Jim Glassford and Sage Gordon vying to be director of Area I.

School District 28 candidates are:

Honey Affleck, Ted Bosman, Lisa Boudreau, Katie Bowell, David Chapman, Donnelly Clement, Cory Delves, Tony Goulet, Melissa Huska, Wendy Mahoney, Cheri Maisonneuve, Julie-Anne Runge and Heidi Tims.

What happens once polls close?

After 8 p.m. local time, election officials will begin counting and tallying the ballots.
