While Quesnel gets the first shot of real summer weather, students at Carson Elementary School will not be able to enjoy it on their play structures.

A landslide in the area on Sunday, April 11 has forced the Quesnel School District to close the playground.

The school district has installed fencing around the affected area to dissuade use.

“The School District is monitoring the site daily and working with a geotechnical engineer to determine the cause of the landslide and the impacts to the site,” a news release from the district reads. “Thank you to students, staff, parents and the community for understanding the importance of respecting the boundaries of the new fencing. The School District will update the school community when new information is available.”

The engineer has also determined the school and field are still safe to use.
