Quesnel’s new U18 Development team is what sport should be all about, says letter writer Dinsdale. (Tracey Roberts photo - Quesnel Cariboo Observer)

Dear Editor:

I’m writing to comment on the article “Hockey for love of the game” that appeared in the March 22, 2023 issue of the Quesnel Cariboo Oberver, written by staff writer Frank Peebles. What a wonderful, sensitive bit of reporting!

There are so many of us who, because of our lack of skill, never had the experience of being on the “rep” team, but that wasn’t because of any lack of desire to have the experience of being on that squad. What a super idea to create a U18 Development Team, something that enables greater numbers of young people to experience more of what their journey through the world of minor sport has to offer. Hats off to everyone associated with Quesnel Minor Hockey who made this happen.

In the same article, reporter Peebles comments that “five other teams from throughout the province journeyed into B.C.’s heart of gold” to enjoy this experience. Quesnel, B.C.’s Heart of Gold…it has a nice ring to it.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Dinsdale
