Local choir AkaBella was out of town for a concert appearance, last week. On April 2 the Quesnel group sang in Williams Lake for a fundraiser aiding the purchase of cancer detection equipment.
Formed 20 years ago in Quesnel, AkaBella performed an array of fun songs, including San Francisco Bay Blues, Unchained Melody, Blue Bayou, Blue Skies, When I’m Sixty Four and What a Wonderful World.
Hough Memorial Society director Mary Telfer announced at the end of the concert the event raised at least $2,958.
After a hiatus during the pandemic, the musicians said they were very happy to be singing together and in public again.
Audiences are feeling the same thing. Crowds are invited to see the final components of the Quesnel Festival of the Performing Arts, on throughout the month.
Today to April 14, come and support our talented youth competing in the piano festival. Everyone is welcome at Maple Park Alliance Church (MPAC) at 2075 Balsam Avenue. Admission by donation.
This leads into a special awards night on April 17 at 6 p.m. at MPAC - the gala for the piano, vocal and choral divisions. Admission is $10 regular, free for performers.

The best of the best from all elements of the multi-art extravaganza will be called to the stage to show off the city’s peak 2023 performances at the Quesnel Festival of the Performing Arts Celebration of Stars. This highlight night is May 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Chuck Mobley Theatre (Correlieu School - 850 Anderson Drive).
