Quesnel resident Matthew Emmanuel Lucani appeared in Quesnel provincial court Tuesday July 24 for charges relating to a break and enter and theft of local business Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts Plus.

The theft occured July 18 at 1:07 a.m. at the business on Malcolm Drive in West Quesnel. Lucani is charged with break and enter with intent to commit an offence and theft of $5,000 or under.

Court on Tuesday was adjourned after a future date was requested by the accused and his counsel. Lucani has been scheduled to appear again on July 31, 2018, at which time a date will be chosen for a trial or hearing.

Police responded to an alarm at Bumper to Bumper in the early hours on July 18, where they found the business’ glass door smashed.

Later that morning, at around 9 a.m., patrolling RCMP members found and arrested Lucani.

Lucani was also in court on July 24 on an unrelated charge stemming from a June 22, 2018 offence. He was found guilty of theft of $5,000 or under from this incident and has been sentenced to 84 days in jail and a victim surcharge fine of $100.
