5. What are a few fun facts about yourself?

1. I was born and raised a dairy farmer in Chilliwack and studied agriculture and business at University of the Fraser Valley. I moved to Quesnel six years ago, where I now run a hobby farm with my kids. I am currently the executive director of Hospice and also run the Cariboo Wolf Pack 4-H Club. Before moving up north, we researched nearly every town in B.C. and chose Quesnel because we fell in love with the beautiful farming country and the welcoming community spirit.

2. I am very concerned about the Hillside Hazards and the Floodplains. I am concerned for their houses, their safety, their belongings and their property values.

3. We need to be tougher on crime, to protect our citizens. Many of the homeless might benefit to be in a mental health facility where they can get professional help. If successful, then perhaps some of them could help themselves and get back on their feet.

4. We need more available housing so that people can easily move here and start new jobs. As executive director of Quesnel Hospice, I speak to many nurses about issues in the workplace and the profession. A few ideas I have heard from nurses is this: offer a two-year nursing diploma for registered nurse. Bring back the Bridging Program for licensed practical nurses to become registered nurses, and for care aides to become licensed practical nurses. It would be very helpful if the government could help with the education fees. It would also be a great idea to offer dedicated nurses in our community retention bonuses.

5. I love cooking German and ethnic foods as well as gathering herbs and berries from the beautiful Quesnel wilderness. I love learning and am always studying something, especially holistic health and psychology, for dogs, horses and people. I also love to write children’s stories.
