5. What are a few fun facts about yourself?
1. I was born and raised in Quesnel. Married, with two sons also all born and raised in Quesnel. I am currently a School District 28 trustee and City councilor. I am a proud Métis. Graduated here, left for a year and received a diploma in Business Information Management. Returned to Quesnel and delivered chips and bread to various businesses in the area.
2. Housing and affordable housing is a huge part of the plan. I believe in a strategy on promoting new developments and creating new ways to dialogue with the community. Trying to keep the taxes low and affordable, is a challenge, providing the same services to the community, as inflation rates soar out of control. Building and allowing contractors new developments, every time a delay the costs increase.
3. We as a community need to develop and work with all stakeholders, Indigenous leaders and elders, and public around a “Harm Reduction Strategy.” It’s not an easy task by any means, and this is not unique to Quesnel. As a City we need to be very proactive in our approach, find a way to balance services for mental health and addictions, and work with the province to find funding solutions. I believe when we are able to balance services, housing will come.
4. Promote the City of Quesnel – this is a great place to live, play and work. Continue the work in investing in our amenities – showcase Quesnel. Make professionals feel part of the community. Make Quesnel an exciting place.
5. Love to jig. Always smiling. Positive attitude. Raised my hand at a Métis meeting, don’t know what I was thinking, to become the president of the North Cariboo Métis Association.
