Online auction for Quesnel Junior School student art

Art students sell their stuff, gain new experience as artists

Art lessons include selling their work, for some local students, and also a bit about charity.

Some of the young artists at Quesnel Junior School (QJS) are putting their work up for auction, with the online bidding opening May 4 at 8:30 a.m.

“It’s the first year we’re doing this, so it’s small for now but will hopefully grow,” said Jen de Vries, QJS art teacher. “Money raised supplements the QJS art budget, giving Grade 8 and 9 students more access to quality art supplies to build skills, gain experience, create things to decorate their room or home, give as gifts to friends or family, so much more.”

About 15 pieces of art will be up for sale, many of them already online to view at the Jump Into Spring – QJS Art Auction website. You can click on the item to see multiple photos of each piece. So far there is pottery, ceramics, wind chimes, and paintings to consider. There is a cell under each one where you can enter a bid.

“Placer of the highest bid for each item after bidding closes will be the new owner of each item,” said de Vries.

Winning bidders will be contacted to arrange pick up or drop off of their items, pending payment. The school will accept cash or cheque made out to Quesnel Junior School with “Art Auction” on the memo line.

Bidding will close on May 8 at 3 p.m.

It is hoped that this will become an annual event that the kids and community will look forward to.

Find this story online at the QJS website or the Quesnel Cariboo Observer website, and there will be a link to the bidding page.
