The City of Quesnel is continuing to seek feedback on five draft design plans for accessory dwelling units, including carriage homes and secondary dwellings in Quesnel.

An online survey is available until Friday, June 10, following a virtual community meeting on Monday, May 30.

According to the city, accessory dwelling units (ADUs) will increase population density in residential neighborhoods.

The ready-to-use energy-efficient design plans include two carriage homes and three secondary dwelling units, which will expedite the building permit application and approval process.

ADUs were legalized in Quesnel residential zones through a 2019 zoning bylaw.

To promote ADUs, the city said it is waiving building permit fees for the construction and legalization of secondary suites until Dec. 31, 2022. Building permits will also be waived until October 2023 for secondary dwellings and carriage houses.

Once finalized, the ready-to-use design plans will be available for homeowners to use to construct ADUs on their properties.
