The paintings of Lesley Kuhn will be on display at the Quesnel Art Gallery.

The artist’s search for home has led her to Quesnel.

An April 19 opening reception will unveil the contemplations of familiarity, hearth, refuge in the hands of painter Lesley Kuhn, as she invites the audience to think of Home.

“We invite you to take a moment to explore her stunning paintings, which capture the essence of home in a unique and captivating way,” said Shae Lightening of the Quesnel Art Gallery. “This is an opportunity for art enthusiasts and community members to come together and celebrate a wonderful collection of local art. The artist will be present at the reception, and we encourage you to come and meet her and learn more about her work.”

The opening reception runs 7-9 p.m. and the collection of paintings in Home will be on display until May 12. This exhibition is sponsored by Joan Ramsay Harker.

After an evening of the fine arts, there is also an all local showcase of the live arts coming up. May 6 is the grand finale of this year’s resurgent Quesnel Performing Arts Festival (QPAF). The Celebration of Stars is when the best of the best come to show the community what our music, drama and dance artists can do.

“Thank you Quesnel for celebrating our 40th Anniversary with us,” said Vicky Predan from the QPAF. “We really did manage to have a fantastic festival season, all thanks to our talented performers and supportive community. It is only with this support that we can provide performing arts opportunities to our local youth. We are so fortunate to be part of a community that supports arts and culture. I am so proud of our board members, volunteers and committee chairpeople. Countless hours were spent on planning and organizing festivals, workshops and events. We are fortunate to have such positive and passionate people within our organization. Feeling the support and seeing the outstanding talent within our community has really inspired us all to keep learning, growing and improving. If anyone is wanting to become a part of something amazing, please reach out. We are already planning for our 2024 festival season and are looking forward to what’s to come.”

Quesnel’s talented young performers will take the stage at the Chuck Mobley Theatre (Correlieu Secondary School at 850 Anderson Drive) on May 6 at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.).

Each of the performers in the spotlight that night will be first place finishers from the festival’s many elements that unfolded over the past month: dance, piano, speech and dramatic arts, band, instrumental, vocal and choral singing.

The night will also have a bake sale and refreshments.

Tickets are available at the door while supplies last, or online at the QPAF website, or the link in the Quesnel Cariboo Observer’s online version of this story.
