Police watchdog still investigating police-involved shooting that led to death of a Quesnel man

The IIO stepped in to investigate the incident that occurred on Aug. 31, 2021

A year since a police-involved shooting left one man dead in Quesnel, and the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. said it is still reviewing the incident.

A man identified by friends in an online petition as David Baker (legally known as David Manlove) was fatally shot by police on Aug. 31, 2021.

At the time, police said officers arrived to a parking lot at the 400-block of Carson Avenue around 3:30 a.m. and attempted a check on a parked vehicle where a man was sleeping inside.

RCMP claimed that a man reached for a gun and was shot and killed by officers.

Following the incident, an online petition was launched, calling for the police to be held accountable for the shooting.

When the Observer reached out to the IIO of B.C., which investigates all police-related incidents resulting in death or serious harm, a couple weeks ago, a spokesperson said they were unable to provide additional details at the time since the investigation remains open and in progress.
