Come one, come all, to Prom Night with Island Mountain Arts (IMA) in Wells.
The long weekend in Wells is always a busy one. Between the culmination of a kids’ songwriting camp with Richard Garvey, and the return of the Sunset Speakeasy Festival, it’s a good time to get yourself out to the Wells-Barkerville Area.
On Sunday August 6th, Island Mountain Arts is leaning into nostalgic heartstrings as we host Prom: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Whether you’re too young for prom, you missed your prom, you wish for a do-over, or want to bask in the memories of your teenage days, this event is for you.
“It’s been really nice bringing larger events into the community this summer, earlier with The Treeplanter’s Ball and now with Prom,” said IMA’s artistic/executive director Elyssia Sasaki. “I think that Prom is an opportunity to share some music that we’re really excited about and host an event that lets people get in touch with the dreamier sides of themselves. B.C.-based bands, including Sarah Osborne & the Magic Buttons, Post-Modern Connection, and FRANKIIE will be making an appearance as a part of the festivities. There will also be presence from one of Wells’ much-loved food trucks, Morsels Movable Feast, as well as a photobooth and prizes to be won.”
Sasaki added, “the staff have been working really hard to make this a special event. The decorations that you’ll see and the mini events taking place throughout the evening - all of this wouldn’t be possible with their bright ideas.”
While prom can be associated with glitz and glamour, IMA says that isn’t a barrier to participating. “You can dress up or come as you are. We just want to see you out there on the dance floor.”
Prom: A Midsummer’s Night Dream will happen on August 6th at the Wells Community Hall.
Doors at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, with special rates for youth.
