The Quesnel and District Seniors’ Centre wants to know what activities residents would like to see offered as it seeks to ramp up programming in September.
The centre has launched a five-question survey.
“We’ve been almost shut down for the last 18 months, so when we come out of our hibernation we want to poll the community and see what kind of activities they would like because it seems like a good time to start fresh, and bring in new ideas and people out and together,” said vice-president Brenda Bare.
“They’ve been isolated a long time, so we just want to serve the community and give people a place to congregate, communicate, engage and be active physically and mentally in a healthy way.”
Office hours at the seniors’ centre were cut back as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic. While some activities did resume late last year, COVID-19 protocols were in place, limiting the number people who could participate.
Pickleball, a top favorite at the centre, was restricted to a two-person cohort, also referred to as a bubble.
Bare said by September they would return to regular hours at their office and hope to start up a walking group and coffee drop-ins.

“Through the summer normally it’s very quiet…normally there’s not much that goes on, so rather than try and start something up when there’s no one around, we’re going to wait until September and then hit it hard,” Bare said.
Pancake breakfasts, open to everyone of all ages, are also set to resume then.
The survey will be available until Sept. 15, with participants entered to win two free breakfasts. Membership, valid until December 2022, is available for $10.
“We’re thrilled to get going again, and we’re hoping that there will be a lot of people who respond,” Bare said.
“Tell us what they want, and we’ll see if we can bring those things together and make it happen.”
