Quesnel’s COVID-19 case count remains low, but the region no longer has the lowest numbers in Northern Health.

Five cases were detected in the Quesnel local health area between Jan. 24 and Jan. 30. There are two other local health areas with a daily case rate of under 5 per 100,000 people in Northern Health. Smithers detected five cases, and the northwestern local health area detected no new cases.

Case counts in regions immidately surrounding Quesnel remain high. There were 72 cases detected in the Cariboo/Chilcotin area, working out to a daily rate of over 20 per 100,000 people.

Each area surrounding Quesnel has at least 5 cases per 100,000 people. There were 69 cases detected in the Prince George region during the same week five cases were reported in Quesnel.

The outbreak in the 100 Mile House region is on the decline. There were only six cases detected in their local health area during the week.
