When Harpal Aulakh received the box containing his donation to the Quesnel Fire Department, he had to double check the rescue sled he had ordered hadn’t been stolen.
“It all came to my shop and when I picked up the box, I actually had to look in the box to make sure there was something in it, the basket is so light,” he said. “It made me double check myself.”
Aulakh, who is the owner of AUL Industrial Repair Services, donated $5,000 worth of embankment rescue equipment to the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department. One of the pieces was a rescue sled made of ultra-light titanium.
Aulakh is a former firefighter, and decided to donate after meeting with some of the current firefighters.
“I got that nostalgia and camaraderie,” he said. I really wanted to make a donation to the fire department.”
After reaching out to the department about what they needed, Aulakh purchased equipment to help rescue people injured at the bottom of embankments or cliffs.
“All the terrain here is incredible,” Aulakh said. “Some of the equipment is to standardize everything in the fire department,” he said. “We usually do a couple big donations a year, and this is something we wanted to do as an organization to give back to the community.”
The Quesnel Fire Department received the equipment Tuesday, Feb. 23.
