A long-time Quesnel city councillor is throwing his hat in the mayoral race.

Ron Paull filed his mayoral nomination papers Tuesday, Sept. 6.

“I was seriously planning to run for council for another term, and when I was discussing that with my friends and people in the community, I’ve never had so much push for me to run for mayor,” Paull said.

“I think the community is ready for a change at the top.”

Paull has more than three decades of combined staff and council experience at city hall, along with a lengthy history in volunteer community service.

This will be his fourth run for mayor.

“It is a big challenge, but I’m up for it,” Paull said. “There are certainly a lot more complicated and complex issues on the table today compared to years ago when I ran for mayor, but I think what has galvanized the community more than anything is this proposal to convert the Ramada into a homeless shelter and supportive housing.”

Paull plans to officially release his mayoral platform in the coming days.

“The reason that I want to stay on is to see some of the big issues brought to a successful conclusion such as the interconnector and developing, finalizing, and nurturing a housing strategy,” he added, thanking his biggest and most important ally, his wife, Pat Morton.
