Quesnel Crime Reduction Unit seizes drugs, cash and firearm from downtown dwelling

A local man was arrested after authorities executed a search warrant

A 35-year-old man remains in custody after a search warrant at a dwelling unit in downtown Quesnel resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of heroin, cash and a loaded sawed-off shotgun, said RCMP.

The Quesnel Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), with the assistance of the RCMP Police Dog Services, arrested the Quesnel man Tuesday, March 15, at around 2:30 p.m. at the unit located in the 300 block of St. Laurent Avenue.

“During this one-week investigation, CRU observed steady foot traffic coming and going from this location,” Cpl. Matt Isaak of the CRU said in a news release.

“It was abundantly clear that the man was dealing drugs from the unit. In addition, the location was in close proximity to support agencies for vulnerable people, which made the file a priority to reduce community harm.”

The man had been previously released from jail one month ago on thirteen unrelated charges.

Quesnel RCMP Sgt. Richard Weseen said he was on house arrest and was prohibited from possessing firearms.

“The CRU will continue to focus on targeting prolific offenders in areas with high drug and property crimes,” Weseen noted.

The man is currently being held in custody on several charges and is awaiting a bail hearing.

His name has not been released.
