There was good news in the Cariboo Fire Centre’s update on Thursday, Aug. 5. The Purdy Lake Wildfire, which is burning inside Kluskoil Lake Provincial Park is classified as ‘being held’ and is no longer considered a wildfire of note.
The 8,100 hectare lightning-caused wildfire has been burning since early July. No areas were evacuated due to the fire, but some areas were put on alert.

“Due to warmer temperatures and wind on site, fire activity increased in the northwest portion of the fire, but there was no increase in size,” the final update on the fire reads. “Helicopters actioned by bucketing water to cool the area.”
Despite the blaze no longer listed as a wildfire of note, fire service members will continue to work to hold the line.
“Crews will be working along the northwest and the southwest flanks patrolling and extinguishing hotspots,” the update reads. “All activity seen on this fire has been on the interior portions of the perimeter.”
Two other wildfires of note are burning north of the Purdy Lake Wildfire, in the Prince George Fire Centre.
None of the 14 wildfires burning in the Quesnel Fire Zone as of Aug. 6 are considered of note. Five are considered out of control.
