One Quesnel man is in critical condition after a single vehicle crash.

Shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday Quesnel RCMP, BC Ambulance Services and Highway Rescue were called to the scene of a single vehicle crash on Highway 97 near Ahbau Creek – north of Quesnel.

The SUV was traveling northbound on Highway 97 near Ahbua Creek when it left the roadway after failing to negotiate a curve.

Emergency responders arrived to find the 21-year-old driver pinned underneath the vehicle. The male was extracted by Highway Rescue personnel and transferred to Quesnel’s GR Baker Hospital before being transported by air ambulance. He remains in critical condition.

His 20-year-old passenger was treated at GR Baker for non-life threatening injuries and later released.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation.
