Additional RCMP resources will be in Quesnel during Billy Barker Days which is returning this month after a two-year hiatus.

Quesnel RCMP detachment commander Staff Sgt. Richard Weseen says police will have their boots on the ground to ensure the family fun event goes off safely.

BC Highway Patrol will assist with road checks and provide traffic law enforcement, making impaired driving offences a top priority.

“We’ll be prepared to respond to any incident as we always are,” Weseen said. “Hopefully, everything goes well, and the weather is good, and it will be good to see all the citizens out and about.”

From what Weseen is hearing on the streets and from friends he knows, everyone is happy to have Billy Barker Days back and is looking forward to being out, having fun.

The Billy Barker Days Festival was cancelled in 2021 and 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year the annual four-day festival is set to take place from Thursday, July 14 to Sunday, July 17.

Billy Barker Days are typically one of the busiest times for the Quesnel RCMP when it comes to calls for service.

“We’re set, we’re ready to go, and we’re hoping for a safe and fun weekend,” Weseen said.
