The Quesnel School District will be welcoming a new principal of Indigenous education next week.

Doreen L’Hirondelle is replacing JoAnne Moise, who has resigned from the district.

She’ll begin the role Wednesday, Sept. 14.

L’Hirondelle said she is excited to take on the position and looks forward to joining a team of amazing educators.

“I look forward to the challenges the role brings and working with the Aboriginal communities,” she added. “I have had the opportunity to be in Quesnel and am looking forward to being in such a friendly and welcoming community.”

L’Hirondelle has worked in the education field for over 28 years as a principal in district and First Nations communities and other roles.

She recently worked as the contracted education manager and education lead for the Little Shuswap Band near Chase. She was also a principal at Chief Atahm School with the Adams Lake Indian Band, and in Alberta at the Tsuu T’Ina Junior Senior School and the Sturgeon Lake School.

According to the Quesnel School District, the district principal of Indigenous education reports directly to the superintendent and provides leadership regarding the success of Indigenous learners and learning.

L’Hirondelle holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Calgary and a master’s degree in education leadership from the University of Portland.
