The Rotary year runs from July 1st to June 30th and that means we have a new Rotary International theme, said group member Simon Turner. The new theme is Create Hope In The World.
“The goal is to restore hope — to help the world heal from destructive conflicts and, in turn, to help us achieve lasting change for ourselves,” said Rotary International president R. Gordon R. McInally when the global group’s 2023 theme was announced.
He said the idea was sparked by meeting a woman in Thailand in 2004 during the aftermath of the devastating Pacific tsunami, that year. The woman had lost her husband, daughter, son, and livelihood in those crashing mega-waves, yet she presented McInally with the gift of a seashell upon meeting him.
“She went on to tell me that Rotary… had restored her optimism. We gave her hope,” McInally said. “This is how Rotary brings lasting change to the world: one restored or newly created hope at a time.”
The recent meeting in Quesnel ensconced the next set of new officers and directors on the board.
President-elect Tony Goulet was unable to attend, and so is absent from the photo.
