Quesnel’s weekly COVID-19 case rate is nearly at new heights.

Northern Health detected 73 new cases of the virus from Oct. 10 - 16, the most recent span of reporting time. That’s the second most detected in Quesnel in a single reporting week, only eclipsed by a week on Sept. 12.

Nearly all of Northern Health has detected more than 20 daily cases per 100,000 people. Only Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert have under 20 cases per 100,000 in Northern Health.

Residents in Northern Health have stricter gathering restrictions than other areas of the province.

Quesnel’s vaccination rate has been growing consistently through that time. Each new reporting week for the past month, one per cent of the population is newly immunized.

As of Oct. 19, 76 per cent of eligible residents in the area have received a single dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

An outbreak of COVID-19 was declared at GR Baker Memorial Hospital on Oct. 15. Two staff members and two patients tested positive.
