Two not-for-profits in Quesnel were provided with face masks by a local vehicle dealership to help fight against the spread of COVID-19.
Fraser River GM donated 500 masks to the Salvation Army and Big Brothers Big Sisters earlier this month.
The contribution made on Friday, May 7 is the result of General Motors (GM) Canada fulfilling its commitment to the federal government to produce 10 million face masks for the Public Health Agency of Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since late May 2020, around one million masks were produced each month by GM Oshawa Operations in Ontario.
“After GM Canada fulfilled their obligation to the Canadian Government, they produced nearly 500,000 additional masks,” said local sales manager Shaun Arscott.
“Dealers across Canada received 1,000 masks to be donated to organizations in their community.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters marketing coordinator Joanie Newman said they were thrilled with the donation and are very thankful for all the support they receive in the community.
When fitted, worn, and handled correctly, face masks effectively act as a barrier helping stop the spread of droplets from a person’s mouth and nose when talking, coughing, or sneezing, according to the BC Centre of Disease Control.
