The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department (QVFD) battled a grass fire on a windy afternoon Wednesday, April 6.

Firefighters made quick work on the 1.4-hectare grass fire on Sales Road East that had earlier escaped from a resident who was surprised at how dry things were.

The fire quickly spread behind their property, leaving a blackened ground.

“No structures were damaged,” Fire Chief Ron Richert said, noting five apparatus and 16 firefighters had responded.
