The Quesnel RCMP have arrested one man after local citizens observed suspicious behaviour on Monday afternoon.

On Aug. 20 at 12:47 p.m., local RCMP received a report of a suspicious man lurking near a newer pick-up in a parking lot near Broughton Avenue in West Quesnel.

The caller reported she told the man to leave. The man jumped the fence and fled on foot before officers arrived. Once on the scene, police determined the pick-up truck was stolen out of Kamloops.

Several minutes later, a second caller reported there was a man near the foot bridge acting suspiciously and bothering pedestrians on the bridge. The man matched the description of the man seen running from the stolen pick-up.

Quesnel RCMP General Duty and Crime Reduction Unit members located the man, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was arrested on the warrant and for being in possession of stolen property.

“The RCMP are grateful for the assistance from the members of the public, who quickly called police with a good description of the suspect,” says Quesnel Detachment Commander, Staff Sergeant Andrew Burton.

“It was these actions that led to the quick arrest.”

RCMP say investigation into this matter is ongoing.
