The BC Teachers’ Federation, representing the teaching staff in School District 28 (Quesnel), has served 72-hour strike notice.

The BC Teachers’ Federation, representing the teaching staff in School District 28 (Quesnel), has served 72-hour strike notice.

This means that on April 23, 2014, teachers will engage in strike activity. Phase One of this activity will include:

• not performing supervision;

• not meeting with administration;

• not performing other "administrative" functions.

"Due to the increased pressure on our administrative staff to perform supervision and the need to focus on student safety, School District #28 will be cancelling recess at all elementary schools effective Wednesday, April 23," the SD29 press release states.

The elementary school day will begin 15 minutes later than usual.

The bus schedules will not change. Students will be supervised on the playground prior to the start of classes. If possible, elementary students who walk to school are requested to arrive at school 15 minutes later than usual.

Despite these restrictions, district staff, school administration, teachers and support staff will continue to work to minimize the impact of the provincial dispute on student learning.
