UPDATE: Elderly man missing at Dugan Lake found safe

Update: Williams Lake RCMP confirm missing man George Ballantyne has been found safe and sound. He has been reunited with family.

Members of the Central Cariboo Search and Rescue along with South Cariboo Search and Rescue, Kamloops Search and Rescue and Prince George Search and Rescue had been conducting an extensive search.

Staff Sgt. Brad McKinnon said Williams Lake RCMP and CCSAR, with the assistance of the police service dog, worked all night (June 22-23) and Ballantyne was located Friday morning.

“A great outcome, and an incident like this highlights the incredible work done by our CCSAR team and the members of your Williams Lake RCMP,” McKinnon said.

Williams Lake RCMP and Central Cariboo Search and Rescue are asking the public to keep an eye out for an elderly man who is missing in the Dugan Lake area, east of Williams Lake.

On Thursday, (June 22) at 1:49 p.m. it was reported to police that William 81-year-old George Ballantyne had gone for a walk at Dugan Lake Recreation Site in 150 Mile House and had not returned, said Cpl. Brett Squire of the Williams Lake RCMP.

Ballantyne went for a walk before breakfast at 10:45 a.m. and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a green fleece jacket, and a duck bill hat. George is a Caucasian male, 5’1” and 140 pounds; with white crew cut hair. Central Cariboo Search and Rescue and Southern Cariboo Search and Rescue have been activated.

Police are asking the public in the area of the Dugan Lake Recreation Site to check their properties, and advise Williams Lake RCMP at 250-392-6211 if anything is noticed.
