The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department and first responders were called to a motor vehicle incident on Highway 97 just beyond the Quesnel River Bridge this morning (Sept. 16) just after 1 a.m.

A semi-trailer truck overturned north of the Quesnel River Bridge, near LeBourdais Park.

Cst. Lorne Smith with the Quesnel RCMP said the incident is currently under investigation but there were no significant injuries from the crash, which involved one truck.

Security personnel at the scene said the truck is carrying mail, and that the scene would not be cleaned up until the cargo is retrieved by Canada Post.

Canada Post did not immediately return a request for comment.

The highway is currently open, but Cst. Smith said clean up may require traffic delays.

“At some point today I’d imagine they will have trucks there to remove the vehicle and I would expect some delays on the highway, or the highway to be rerouted for a short time,” he said.
