Environment Canada has just issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Quesnel and Williams Lake today (July 19).
The weather organization says conditions may cause storms with strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. It also says lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops.
Environment Canada warns that large hail can damage property and cause injury. It also says strong wind gusts can “toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles,” and that heavy rain can cause floods and water pooling on roads.
The storm warning comes after storms across the province caused new fire starts due to lightning in the Cariboo and beyond.
Environment Canada urges residents to stay indoors during severe storms.
