Pride Days are a specialty of DJ Riki Rocket, but her own pride swells for Quesnel.

The Sunshine Coast is home for Rocket these days, after more than a decade living in Europe, but there is a slice of home here in the Cariboo, so being the headliner for the Quesnel Pride party on June 10 gets her heart pounding like the beats she so famously drops.

“I absolutely love Quesnel, my folks and grandparents are from there. I have been coming to the LeBourdais Park since I was a li’l gold nugget. Full circle moment to come back and play Pride parties here now,” she said on Instagram.

According to her colourful and widespread social media presence, Rocket is an Indigenous and LGBTQ2+ DJ and electronic music producer. She has been working in the music industry professionally, since 2002 and has been rocking crowds on a global scale. With her career starting in Brighton, England, Riki has a love for house music that runs deep and often shows in her tracks and mixes.

Some international career highlights include: Sydney Mardi Gras in Australia, Dinah Shore Long Weekend in Palm Springs, Dublin Pride, Naomi Campbell’s ID Magazine lesbian-centric photoshoot in London, and Las Palmas Pride on the Canary Islands.

Career highlights in Canada include: opening sets for the official pre Stadium album release tour for Akon and Karl Wolf, Flygirl Production events with Stephanie Rice from The Voice and Rose Garcia from The Real L-Word, and opening sets for SkiiTour and The Funk Hunters during the Jasper In January winter festival.

This is DJ Riki Rocket’s second year in a row coming to perform at Quesnel Pride. You can see her in LeBourdais Park from 1-3 p.m. providing the outdoor pulse of the event. Then, from 6 p.m. to midnight in Arena 2, she will be the musical feature for the Say My (Chosen) Name Pride Party.
