Traffic flowing through Quesnel’s Johnston Bridge Loop again

The Riverwalk remains closed, but cars and trucks are able to move more freely

For the first time since Tuesday, Jan. 4, traffic is moving along the Johnston Bridge Loop.

Flooding caused by an ice jam on the Quesnel River closed the road and portion’s of Quesnel’s Riverfront Trail for over three weeks. The walking trail remains closed.

The Johnston Bridge has also re-opened to traffic, with the usual weight restrictions in effect.

After record-cold temperatures during the holidays, the Quesnel River was completely covered with ice, and at one point was being monitored daily by the city to ensure flooding didn’t worsen.
