Truck crash closes Johnston Bridge Friday afternoon

The truck was lying on its side

The Johnston Bridge was closed late Friday afternoon, Aug. 19, after a service truck appears to have crashed into the railing, flipping onto its side.

The incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m.

There appeared to be no injuries.

Quesnel RCMP media relations officer Sgt. Clay Kronebusch said crews are working to remove the truck.

“We’re having some difficulty due to the weight limits so it may take some time to clear off the bridge, but they’re working with the City and tow-truck companies to clear it as soon as possible.”

A 10,000-kilogram load restriction has been in place on the Johnston Bridge since October 2018, when a routine inspection revealed the bridge is structurally compromised.

On Monday (Aug. 22), Kronebusch said it was determined the truck was over the weight limit and a violation ticket was issued to the driver.
