As Dr. Bonnie Henry gave an update on provincial COVID-19 numbers Tuesday, Dec. 29, including 74 deaths over the holiday break, the B.C. Centre for Disease Control released updated numbers by local health area
There were two cases of COVID-19 detected in Quesnel in the period from Dec. 13 to 19.
In neighbouring Cariboo-Chilcotin, there were no cases detected, but further north, Smithers, Burns Lake and Nechako reported high numbers. While case numbers remain below 30, the average daily rate per 100,000 people is among the highest in the province.
Both Burns Lake and Nechako have outbreaks related to to worksites, which started on Dec. 19.
The Prince George local health area, dealing with an outbreak at Jubilee Lodge seniors housing, detected 98 cases during the same period.

No outbreaks have been detected in Quesnel, and no school exposures are currently reported.
More than three dozen school exposures are reported on Northern Health’s website, with no active monitoring required in the Quesnel School District.
