After record-setting cold fell over Quesnel during the holidays, those hoping for warmer weather in the Cariboo will get their wish.

Environment Canada forecasts temperatures in Quesnel are forecasted to drastically rise by this weekend. While sub-zero temperatures are still forecasted for Sunday, with a high of -3 C and an overnight low of -4 C, the snow should start melting on Monday.

It had gotten so cold, the Cariboo Ski Touring Club had to close their rental shop and lodge.

January 10 is forecasted to have a high of 2 C, with a chance of rain or snow at night. Above-zero temperatures are expected to remain until Tuesday night.

Mild temperatures of -1 and -2 are forecasted for Wednesday, Jan 12, and Thursday, Jan. 13 respectively.

The website timeanddate.com notes the mean temperature for Quesnel in January is -6 C.
