Remember the Pelican Lake, Twan Creek and Dragon Mountain fires of 2010?

Well, the reforestation efforts are already underway.

West Fraser Mills, Quesnel division, is replanting 530,000 trees this spring and plan another 800,000 for next spring in an effort to replace the burned plantations.

With the quick aid of Brad Powell of the BC Forest Service and Norm Livingstone of Silvagro, West Fraser was able to add 500,000 of these trees to their sowing program in time.

These will be grown at a local nursery, the Silvagro Partnership, in addition to those already sown for planting in 2012.

West Fraser Mills plans to have the remaining areas assessed this summer so they can begin the sowing process where it’s estimated another one million trees may be required to complete the reestablishment of West Fraser’s burned areas.

It is in collaboration of all involved (BC Forest Service, nurseries, tree planters and forest consultant companies) that West Fraser is able to provide this quick response.

As a company, West Fraser and its forest professionals are committed to applying best forest practices and are focused on long term timber supply for future generations.
