The Quesnel RCMP and the North District Emergency Response Team have locked down an area in West Quesnel this morning, for what RCMP described as a major police incident.

The Emergency Response Team deals with situations where extreme danger/firearms are above the ability of detachments or other policing partners.

The area encompasses Wade Avenue and Doherty Drive, with Willis Street and Winder Street unaccessable to the public in this area. Anderson Drive is currently open for traffic.

The daycare located in the old Baker School has been notified and will remain indoors until the operation has been wrapped up.

Correlieu Secondary School has been made aware of the situation but is not currently on lock down.

More to come.
