UPDATE: Wildfire on Hawk Road, off Nazko Road, now extinguished

Crews had the fire out within a day after it started Aug. 12

UPDATE AUG. 14:

The Cariboo Fire Centre has confirmed the fire that started Aug. 12 at Hawk Forest Service Road, north of Nazko Road, has now been extinguished after crews worked to put it out Aug. 13.

Bouchie Lake Fire Department chief Jeff Lefebvre posted on Facebook yesterday, Aug. 13, that the fire had been extinguished, and fire information officer Jessica Mack from the Cariboo Fire Centre has confirmed this news this morning.

UPDATE:

Cariboo Fire Centre fire information officer Jessica Mack has confirmed crews are now on the ground at the Hawk Road Fire. She says the fire is currently around five square metres, which is around 0.0005 hectares.

“There is an initial attack crew on site this morning working to extinguish the fire,” says Mack.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The BC Wildfire Service is investigating a new fire reported at Hawk Forest Service Road in the Quesnel Fire Zone. According to the BC Wildfire Service map, the fire was started Aug. 12 by lightning.

The fire is currently listed as 0.01 hectare and is located on a forestry road west of Milburn Lake and northeast of Puntchesakut Lake, north of Nazko Road. The fire is located within the Cariboo Regional District’s evacuation alert area for the Narcosli Creek Fire.

Cariboo Fire Centre fire information officer Jessica Mack says crews are on the way to this fire this morning. She will have more information once they arrive and assess the area.
